Color
There are some combinations that work and there are some which don’t work at all. You will certainly find a proper guide on the which color combinations work best and what should be the base color for the combinations that you want to use in the website. However, pick any 2 or at max 3 colors as a base and their try different shades of colors to create your own combinations that you seem would look good.
Remember that as significant it is choosing the right colors while designing a website, it is equally important that you use the nice and appealing colors.
Balance
It’s all about ensuring that your colors, images and content are put together in such a manner that they should look balanced, no matter if it is placed symmetrically or asymmetrically. It is advisable that you first try to achieve perfection in the art of presenting symmetric designs because asymmetric balance requires playing around a lot and it requires a lot of fine tuning and an expert eye to achieve that kind of perfection.
In fact, you will observe that each design that appeals to your eyes will have balanced combination of elements that would be underlying it.
Grid
If you have understood the concept of balance, then you will also get the grids as it is quite similar. Explaining it in really simple and straight forward language, grids are the combination or vertical and horizontal rulers that would assist you to compartmentalize the design completely. Just imagine having columns in your page’s content. They increase the readability factor of the website and make the content easier to be absorbed by the visitor.
Even if your design and the colors that you would use won’t be impressive enough for the reader, the proper structuring of the elements will make it convenient for user to navigate.
Graphics
It is an agreeable fact that you do not need amazing graphics to make the website look good if your design is good, but the fact that bad graphics can really make your website design look bad is also true. You should know that if a user has to choose between understanding something depicted through graphics and written content, the graphics would be a clear choice. So, make sure that if you are choosing to put up graphics they should be really appealing.
And you do not need to have some extraordinary photography skills put up right images, having minimal Photoshop skills and having the right eye to choose images online will also do the job.
White Space
White space (negative space) literally means the white area on the page where you do not put anything. Do not try to fill up each and every corner of the website page by putting in text or image everywhere. Give your content and images some readable and viewable space so that it doesn’t look like every element is overlapping each other. In fact, white space actually adds lots of class to a design if you would observe it in the available templates online.
So, make sure that there is enough padding between the paragraphs and images that you are adding up on each of the websites.
Typography
It includes so many elements that it is a bit difficult to explain everything in few words. The font you size, it’s size and weight, positioning, appearance – everything matters a lot while you are placing text in your design. Though as designers and users, we will have to wait a bit longer for CSS 3 to be released to expect the web typography to reach and serve its complete potential, we definitely have the tools and methods to ensure that it looks pretty and interesting.
You need to understand that you cannot have a complete control over the web typography so you need to manage the way out using the options available.
Connection
